Surrealism

Surrealism

As surrealism celebrates its 100th anniversary around the world, Cahiers d'Art is proud to associate its name with this significant event. As a revue, publishing house and gallery, Cahiers d'Art has supported surrealism by inviting writers and artists to express their ideas and promote their art in its revue and gallery.

An ardent defender of Surrealism, Cahiers d'Art contributed to its renown by publishing the writings of André Breton, editing monographs such as Max Ernst, exhibiting Man Ray, and creating the revue L'Usage de la parole.

In their turn, surrealists such as Miró, Max Ernst and Yves Tanguy created original artworks specially designed for Cahiers d'Art.

"To acknowledge their differences, men wish to be similar.

From this single desire, all human relationships derive their value.
To be two in destruction, construction, or living, is already to be all, to be the other infinitely and no longer oneself. Each ray of sunlight supports a snowflake, each outstretched hand a familiar gaze.

A thoughtful, in-depth examination of the possibilities of thought, of the common thought shared by all, renders any hierarchy among men futile."
